Draft Minutes for April 5, 2005 Meeting

Members Present: Wayne Johansson, Victoria Hochberg, Satya de la Manitou, Allan Goldpenny, J. Mulberg, Bronni Stein, Henry Mars, Malcolm McNeil, Fredrica Cooper, John Connolly, Barth Benedict, Joyce Dyrector, Conrad Schoeffter.

Location: Yamashiro Restaurant, Conference Room.

1. A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.

2. The minutes for the October 12 meeting were approved by unanimous voice vote.

3. Explanation and discussion of the proposed new Hollywood Community Plan as presented at the last HHWNC board meeting. In its current form, the plan seems to be acceptable to Area 4. No motion was made and no vote was taken.

4. Presentation of the “River of Blue” beautification project, which entails the planting of Jacaranda trees on both sides of Highland Avenue going south from the Hollywood Bowl to Hollywood Boulevard. A motion in support of this project passed by unanimous voice vote. Stakeholders pointed out that the project also has the unanimous support of the Hollywood Heights Association. Area 4 will make a presentation and seek the support of the HHWNC board, once the project has progressed further.

5. An extensive update was given on current Neighborhood Council affairs including the “Banana Bungalows” and “La Brea mixed use” developments and a variety of motions before the HHWNC board. This sparked a lively discussion of the internal dynamics of the HHWNC board.

6. During public comment, the traffic situation in the vicinity of La Brea was brought up. The 30-second light on Franklin going west across La Brea backs up traffic, blocking the left turn for people who wish to turn south onto La Brea. Also, further south on La Brea, there should be a “right turn only” lane onto Highland. On a different topic, the stakeholders expressed the wish that future meetings would start half an hour earlier, at 7:00 p.m.

7. As there was no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.

Minutes prepared by Conrad Schoeffter.
